Afew weeks ago I wrote about the possibiity of building an
Iraq Moratorium Day. If any of my handful of readers have wondered why this blog had fallen silent, it’s because I found myself working with a diverse group of grassroots antiwar activists to lay the groundwork for just that.

Well now it IS here and it’s official:
September 21, 2007 is Iraq Moratorium Day
The official Iraq Moratorium Day website is now live!
The administration and the rest of the neocons, chicken hawks, and their enablers have talked long and loud about September as a crucial decision point about the future of the US occupation/war in Iraq. As has been widely reported, they are now desperately trying to wriggle off the hook they set for themselves. We MUST NOT let them get away with moving the goalposts yet again. The grassroots/netroots coalition that has come together is inviting the nearly two thirds of Americans who are ready to start bringing the troops home to join us in this effort. Head on over to the official Moratorium website to join us now!
Here is the official announcement which I have just received from the Iraq Moratorium Committee:
IRAQ MORATORIUM
September 21 and every Third Friday thereafterToday the Iraq Moratorium project steps onto the public stage!
Over 60% of Americans want this war over–yesterday. The political process is moving glacially, at best, to make that happen. It’s got to stop! We’ve got to stop it!
The idea is simple. On September 21 and on every subsequent Third Friday, millions of Americans will break with their daily routine to take some concrete step to demand an end to the war and the return home of the troops.
The hallmark will be the wearing of black ribbons and armbands, in mourning for all of those who have died in this senseless adventure–Iraqis, American and other coalition troops, and others. All of us who want this war ended can decide what steps we will take, individually or with others, on September 21. Together, acting where we live, work and study, we will create a mighty shout so loud that the media won’t be able to white it out and the politicians won’t be able to ignore it.
The Iraq Moratorium is not an organization. It was initiated by a small group of anti-war activists from very diverse backgrounds. We see it as a project that will strengthen the work of existing anti-war groups. Even more important, the clear and simple message, the
local focus and the variety of activities it can encompass will bring into motion great numbers who have not yet taken any action against the war.It is a 21st century project: the reach of the Internet and the Web will help reach tens of millions with this message. Please help by forwarding this message widely.
To learn more, to pledge to take part in the Iraq Moratorium, and to get involved, please go to the website website today.

All those reading here now are among the very first to get this good news for all of us that are struggling to end this madness. Spread the word, to everyone you know, to your friends, email groups, on your blogs and forums where you post and comment. This is a truly grassroots effort (although well known supporters are signing on every day, check out the Who’s On Board page at the website while you’re there.) Most of all, sign up now and be part of the very leading edge of this new wave of grassroots and netroots antiwar mobilization!

Of course I am signed on…
I reposted this to help spread the word! Good job Lauritz, this must have taken a great deal of time and effort, I did think something happened to you because of your extended absence from the blogosphere. Glad to see you are still alive and very much kicking!

This has finally come to my attention and it’s a great idea!
I had a somewhat similar idea myself last night, but slightly more tightly focused upon our elected officials.
Take a look here:

I think it could be dovetailed into this action and possibly increase the exposure and attention you’re seeking to create.
Either or, thanks for stepping things up! I’ll be doing what I can to help bring this moratorium into reality!

Great! Every self-respecting citizen needs to get on this!!
But why wait until September! You need to apply the pressure BEFORE the key dates for withdrawing the ’surge’ from Iraq.
DON’T WAIT–BUSH ACTS MORE CRAZY BY THE DAY!!
